Cal-Maine officials said in a statement that they were notified after the close of business April 13 of Rose Acre Farms’ voluntary egg recall. The eggs were repackaged at Cal-Maine’s facility in Dade City, FL.

“The eggs involved in the recall have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup and were distributed from Rose Acre Farms’ Hyde County, North Carolina, facility from January 11, 2018, through April 12, 2018,” the statement read.

    Egg recall: FDA confirms
    presence of Salmonella

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced April 13 that Rose Acre Farms voluntarily recalled about 206 million eggs. Company officials in Seymour, IN, said they initiated the recall after at least 22 people became sick on the East Coast.

The illnesses were traced back to Rose Acre Farms’ egg production farm in Hyde County, NC. The FDA said its testing of the Hyde County facility showed positive results for Salmonella Braenderup.

“FDA analysis of the samples revealed that the same strain of Salmonella Braenderup that caused the illnesses was present at the Hyde County Egg facility, tying the facility to the illnesses,” the FDA said in a statement.
